Quick answers about how ProteinPrice works, where our data comes from, and how we keep things honest.
12 times a day, every two hours. Some retailers we refresh more often during big sale weekends like Black Friday and EOFY.
Directly from each store's public product pages and sitemaps. We do not pull from login-only areas, member pricing, or anything behind a paywall. Everything you see on the site is information a shopper could find on their own with enough time.
Each store sets their own price, runs their own sales calendar, and negotiates their own deals with the brands. The same 1kg tub of whey can easily swing $20 between two stores in the same week, especially when one is running a flash sale.
Stores change prices throughout the day, especially during sales. We refresh every two hours, but if the store has lifted or dropped the price by the time you click, you will see their current price at checkout. Each listing carries a timestamp so you always know how fresh the comparison is.
Prices and stock status refresh 12 times a day, and every listing carries a green/amber/dim freshness dot so you know how recently we verified it. New products get a manual review before they go live so we know we are matching the right thing. Mistakes happen. If you spot one, let us know and we will fix it the same day.
Yes. Every listing has price history so you can see if today's sale is genuinely a good deal, or if the store has been at that level for weeks already.
We match by brand, flavour, size and pack count. A 1kg vanilla whey is only compared to other 1kg vanilla whey from the same brand. We do not lump different sizes or flavours together.
Open the product page and you will see every store that stocks it, sorted by current price. The cheapest is always at the top, with the $/100g and the live ProteinPrice Value Score so you can spot the real value, not just the lowest sticker price.
Each combination lives on its own listing so the comparison stays fair. A 3-pack of bars is a different product to a 12-pack, even from the same brand.
When a store runs a buy-two-get-one deal we flag it on the listing and show the effective unit price so you can compare it to single-tub pricing at other stores.
Not always. A bigger tub usually costs more upfront but works out cheaper per 100g. We show $/100g on every listing plus a live 1-to-10 ProteinPrice Value Score that compares each product to others in the same category, so you can spot the real value at a glance.
Coles, Woolworths, Chemist Warehouse, ALDI, ASN, Supplement Mart, Nutrition Warehouse, Mr Supplement, Elite Supps, Sportys Health and Amazon AU, plus many brands selling direct from their own websites. New stores are added regularly.
We keep the listing visible but grey it out and skip it for the cheapest price calculation. You still see what the store was charging last time it was available. If a product has been out of stock everywhere for a few weeks, it moves to the archive.
Mostly online prices. ALDI catalogue specials are included because they are well advertised in advance. In-store-only pricing at supermarkets is harder to verify, so we leave those out unless we can confirm them.
Email us or use the contact form and we will add it to the queue. Most missing products get picked up within a week of being requested.
Email hello@proteinprice.com.au with a link to the listing and we will check it within a day.
A live 1-to-10 score that tells you how cheap a product is per 100g compared to every other product in the same category right now. 10 is the cheapest $/100g in the category, 1 is the most expensive. There is no hidden weighting, no affiliate bump, no nutrition gating. Just live price math against the category distribution.
8.5 and above is excellent value (among the cheapest in the category). 7 to 8.4 is great value, cheaper than most. 5.5 to 6.9 is good value, better than the category median. Below 4 is premium pricing. The score moves every time a competitor goes on sale or stock changes.
No. ProteinPrice is a pure price-comparison site — we focus on live prices and real value per 100g across Australian stores. We don't rank or gate products on nutrition.
No. We do not stock products, take payments or ship orders. We compare prices so you can find the best deal, then click through to the store to buy direct.
Yes, with some stores we earn a small commission when you click through and buy. It never changes the price you pay, and it never changes the order results are shown in. Cheapest is always cheapest.
No. Rankings are algorithmic and based on the verified price. Brands cannot pay for placement and we do not run sponsored listings.
No. The site works fully without signing up. You can browse, compare and click through anonymously.
We send you a weekly round-up of the biggest protein deals. Nothing else. We never sell or share your address, and there is an unsubscribe link in every email.
Once a week, usually Sunday morning. If there is a huge sale during the week we may send a one-off alert. That is it.
Not yet. The web version works well on phones and that is where we focus our effort for now. If demand grows we will look at an app.
